Goldenberries are also known as “Incan Berries” or “Cape Gooseberries” because they were cultivated for thousands of years beginning during the Incan Empire.
Navitas Natural Goldenberry Powder is created from fresh picked goldenberries that are freeze-dried and then milled into a fine powder (see photo below). They do this at a low temperature so that the tangy flavor still remains!
They have a sweet and tart flavor, which is a perfect combo that makes my mouth water just thinking about it!
Benefits of Goldenberries include:
You can use this freeze dried fruit powder in a number of ways by putting some in:
Here’s a run down of the golden berry nutrition info:
Last Monday, we featured the Maqui berry because Navitas Naturals sent us a 3oz. bag of Maqui powder for review. I wanted to learn more about this Patagoantioxidant-fruits.coman superfruit from the Chilean evergreen shrub (Aristotelia chilensis) before featuring Navitas Naturals Maqui Powder.
Maqui berries are edible purple berries that pack a powerful punch – these berries are eaten regularly by one of the longest-living cultures in the world – the Mapuche Indians.
You’ll love the maqui berry powder benefits, which include:
Natural antio-inflammatory compounds
Talk about an anti-aging super fruit – they are particularly high in anti-aging flavonoids like anthocyanins and polyphenols.
Navitas Naturals Maqui Powder
Navitas Naturals Maqui Powder is:
Maqui is considered a sacred plant, symbolizing “good will” in the culture of Mapuche (Chile’s native inhabitants). I mixed some Maqui powder into a glass of water and can’t say that the organic freeze dried Maqui powder from Navitas Naturals had a much of a taste -which can be a good thing because you can mix it into things without compromising the overall taste of your smoothie, yogurt, dessert, etc. You can check out what I did in the video below:
I love Navitas Naturals – haven’t found a product that they make that I dislike yet. If you are looking for something different to add to your diet – try the Maqui berry out. You can buy maqui berry powder (3 oz) for $17.55.
Hang out with the good people over at Navitas Naturals through Facebook and Twitter.
We all already know about my little obsession with Navitas Naturals. I love their packaging and their marketing. I feel like I am putting something good in my body when I reach into their bags, of course, I AM putting something good into my body – so that helps too!
When they sent us their Acai Powder, I was excited because this website was more or less started after I discovered the health benefits of Acai.
And in my research of the Acai berry – it has to be freeze dried within the first 24 hours of being picked in order to preserve it’s nutrients. So Freeze Dried Acai Powder is the perfect solution to get the benefits of the berry.
As I have stated before with the powders – I love that you are still getting the nutrients without having to eat so many fruits in one sitting.
The second product from Norm’s Farms that we were sent to review is their Elderberry Wellness Syrup.
Norm’s Farms Elderberry Wellness Syrup helps to relieve coughs, cold and and flu. If you like the taste of honey, cloves and cinnamon, then you will love the taste of this stuff. I certainly do.
Norm’s Farms Elderberry Wellness Syrup ingredients include: Elderberry, Water, Honey, Cinnamon, Cloves, Sugar (less than 1% by volume), Xanthan Gum, (less than .04% by volume), Malic Acid* (less than .04% by volume).
Their Elderberry Wellness Syrup contains the Elderberry Extract that we reviewed last week. You can read our Norm’s Farms Elderberry Extract Review and also learn more about the benefits of elderberry.
I love that it comes in glass bottles.
The recommended serving is one to two tablespoons several times a day. I might have overdosed!
I am a big fan of this stuff and really wish I would have had it available when I was a kid. TASTES 1 billion times better than cough syrup.
It’s funny how this review came about – a friend of mine, who practices the Paleo diet, reached out to me about a cat toy product because I also run a cat website. The cat product is “Yeowww!” and it’s a catantioxidant-fruits.comp toy, but she rather asked me about “Yonanas”. Not knowing what she was talking about, I Googled it and lo and behold, found it and thought it was something ideal to review for this site, given that it’s all about fruit!
So, I reached out to Dole and asked if they would send us a Yonanas Ice Cream Treat Maker for review. Thank you to Dole, the maker of Yonanas, for sending us one to review.
Yonanas is a kitchen appliance that churns frozen fruit into a healthy treat.
The unit comes with a recipe booklet that allows you to experiment with frozen bananas and many other ingredients (like chocolate, spices and other fruit) to create a healthy dessert similar in texture to frozen yogurt or soft-serve ice cream.
I ended up making a few recipes and they all turned out great – for me, I am more of a chocolate and vanilla dessert person. So I wasn’t as keen on the taste of chocolate and peanut butter recipes (like the one I made in the video), but I did enjoy the ones that were all fruit – as they were more like fruit sorbets.
I love the idea of this machine because it not only helps people stay healthy but allows them to have sweet treats without feeling guilty. It’s a great machine to have and use with kids too – the experimentation of what the taste will be from what you put down the Yonanas chute is always interesting.
The only real planning involved was to have the ingredients on hand and also to have cheetah-spotted bananas (which are sweeter) frozen and de-thawed before churning them through the Yonanas. You can see what I mean in the review video posted below.
I found it very easy to clean because the chute, plunger, and blade are dishwasher safe.
I think it makes a great gift for yourself or for someone else!
