Keeping Healthy Snacks at Hand

Share this post:

How many times have you been out running errands, getting out of a workout or maybe are even at work and find yourself reaching for foods you would never eat at home? If you start adding those choices up, the empty calories can be staggering. Not to mention the guilt you might feel knowing you wanted something better for your body.

A little trick that will help you avoid that dilemma is to take a healthy snack with you. Nuts and fruits are perfect because they can go in a purse, backpack, or even glovebox.  While nuts can be high in calories, these are nutrient and protein rich calories that will give you energy with no sugar crash later.

Simply make up little baggies with a mixture of nuts and dried fruits with no added sugar like tart cherries, apricots, raisins and apples. Cranberries and blueberries are often soaked in sugar so read the label on the package if you are not drying them yourself.

You can add a little popcorn to them if you know you will be eating them that day. Having something on hand to prepare for a sudden moment of hunger could have you reaching for a healthy fruit based snack instead of fast or vending machine fare.
