Mango, Fruit of LifeMango, Fruit of Life

The mango is one of the world’s most loved fruit. It’s juicy and sweet flesh is exquisite. The aroma it gives smells delightful. More than that, it is also known to be a symbol for life. This is because, it is a source of many nutrients that are essential to our existence.

As an anti-cancer agent, the mango has beta-carotene and phenols like quercetin, gallic acid and astragalin. To help reduce your cholesterol level, the soluble fiber pectin can also be found in mangoes.

If you have vision concerns, a slice of mango can help since it is rich in Vitamin A. It also has Vitamins C and E which can improve your skin, hair and nails. Vitamin K, which promotes healthy blood clotting and decrease the risk for bone fractures, can be found in mangoes together with other fruits like avocados, papaya, strawberries, cranberries and pears.

Chinese herbal medicine takes advantage of the fruit’s nutritional value and uses it to treat bleeding gums, nausea, weak digestive system and anemia. However, not everyone can savor the fruit of life since the mango comes from the same plant family as with the poison ivy. It has urushinol, a skin allergen.
